Privacy & Security Policy

This page is maintained by the Chai & Chat team to answer common questions about how we collect, use, and protect your information. It is app-owned content, not an independent certification.
What we collect
- Sign-in details — your name and Google identifier, used to create and personalize your profile.
- Conversations — the messages you exchange with each companion, stored so the conversation feels continuous and remembered.
- Token balance — how many Chai Tokens you hold and any unlimited-pass expiry, so we can gate messaging correctly.
- Device & network signals — an anonymous device fingerprint and a truncated network prefix (never your full IP address), used only to keep referrals fair and prevent abuse.
How we use it
Your data powers your experience: personalizing greetings, keeping conversation history, managing your token balance, and showing your active companion. We do not sell your personal data, and your conversations are not shared with other users.
How we store & protect it
Your data is stored in a managed backend database. Access to your own records is scoped to your signed-in account through row-level security, so other users cannot read your profile or conversations. Authentication is handled through Google sign-in. We limit access to backend systems to those who need it to keep the café running.
Retention & deletion
We keep your conversations and profile for as long as your account is active so your companions can stay consistent. You may request deletion of your account and associated data by reaching out to us — see the contact note below.
AI processing
Your messages are sent to an AI model that generates companion replies in the chosen persona’s voice. Conversations are processed to produce responses and are not used to train external public models. See our AI Use Disclaimer for safe-engagement guidance.
